The Doors Can Tell All!

Don’t underestimate the style of your custom home’s doors. Though you may not think they are important, door styles can be an asset to the overall theme and style of your home. So, with that being said, we are going to give you a full guide to the different types of doors that you can install into your custom home. By giving you this complete guide, hopefully, you will be able to find a door that fits your needs as well as the style of your home.

Panel Doors

Panel doors are commonly used as interior doors and are one of the most popular types of doors out there. You will be able to tell a panel door from another genre of door by the succinct indented panels built into the door. Panel doors will feature square or rectangle panels, all varying in different sizes and numbers. For instance, you can either have five-panel doors in your home, or utilize large four-paneling doors. The most popular style of paneling doors is wooden, plain, and white. Though, of course, the variations are extensive, the general style is unchanging because it incorporates rectangle shapes carved into the wood of the door itself.

Flush Doors

You probably recall the look of flush doors, as they were very popular in the 50s and 60s. Flush doors are completely flat and don’t have any sort of detailing on them. These types of doors are ideal for a home that would like to go with a contemporary theme, or even a mid-century theme. Stylistically, these types of doors make quite the statement, despite the simplicity of their design. Why? Well, most modern doors are made of some type of painted wood and are designed in some way, commonly with decorated panels. But, with a flush door, the style is uniquely plain and simple. As stated, however, some homes can really benefit from a flush door choice, especially if simplicity is the type of look you are going for.

Bifold Doors

Bifold doors are commonly installed for interior closets, most likely in the guest or master bedroom. You may recognize these types of doors because they were very popular in the 90s. Typically, these types of doors are suspended on the track and must be folded to be opened. These types of doors can be useful if you would like to have a design element to your closet door, as well as a unique way to open the doors themselves. A key drawback to these types of doors is that they can be picky and refuse to open smoothly every time.

French Doors

French doors are having a hay day in the 2010s. French doors add an element of glamour and style to your doors, no matter where they are installed. These types of doors are commonly installed as double bedroom doors, or single pantry doors. What separates french doors from other styles of doors is that they feature unique paneling by incorporating glass, stained glass, and other materials. So, though your door is made out of wood, the paneling of your doors can be made with clear glass. This style is extremely popular today because it adds an element of luxury, while also opening up any space with clear paneling.

Sliding Doors

Sliding doors are very common for closet doors. You may remember these styles of doors from when you were a child. Still today, sliding doors are one of the most popular closet door options. Sliding doors work by moving on a track and by suspending the doors a few inches off the ground. These doors are a useful door option, however, you should keep in mind that they are touchy. Just like bifold doors, this style can easily fall off of its track and sometimes refuse to open smoothly. If you choose to have this style of door, know that you must use them gently if you want them to stay on their track.

Barn Doors

Barn doors are very popular currently. Instead of being suspended by a hidden track, these types of doors run on a fully visible track above the door opening. This style is extremely popular for homes that feature a farmhouse or country-style theme. Also, if you are interested in designing your home in a rustic theme, barn doors are also an ideal style choice. If you choose this door-style, know that there is some hardware needed in order to set up your barn doors. For instance, you will have to not only find the part to build your track, but also fasten the track to the wall.

Barn doors are almost always made out of wood, however, there are many variations to this style. For instance, you can choose to build a barn door made out of any material or painted any color.  But, as stated, natural wood barn doors are more preferable, as they go along with a rustic or country theme much better.
