Different Cabinet Styles for Your Custom Home

Your kitchen is a central room of your home. In just your kitchen, you can eat, talk, cook, and get prepared for your day. Because your kitchen is such an important room to your life, and your family’s lives, it makes sense to have the best kitchen possible. When you decide to have your own custom home built, you have the power to make major decisions when it comes to your kitchen.
One of the most monumental decisions when it comes to your kitchen is deciding what appliances you want installed, the floor style you want, and even what lighting fixtures you will decide to go with. There are many decisions for you to make, but choosing your cabinet style is one of the major decisions you have to make in terms of the aesthetics of your kitchen.
In this blog, we will go over the 10 different types of cabinets you can choose from, once you decide to build your own kitchen.

Choosing Cabinetry For Your Custom Kitchen

As stated, your kitchen is important to the look of your home, which gives you all the more reason to get exactly what you want for your kitchen. There are thousands of options out there to choose from, which can make the process of choosing the cabinets of your kitchen all the more difficult.
Think of your cabinets similarly to the cake foundation of a birthday cake. Of course, most cakes include frosting, candles, and other decorations, however, at its base is a soft, spongy cake base; your cabinets are like the cake base of a birthday cake. Your kitchen is likely to feature other fancy features, but the cabinets are at the very heart of its decor and will determine what colors the rest of the kitchen will be. For example, if you choose to have natural wood cabinets, you will want to choose earthy tones throughout your kitchen. This means that your countertops, kitchen sink, and backsplashes should feature neutral colors, such as brown, green, tan, and grey.

So, now that you understand the importance of your kitchen cabinets, let’s explore the different types of cabinets available to you!

By understanding what types of styles there are, you will be able to determine which one fits you and your family better.

Traditional Style

What is the “traditional style” of cabinets? Well, in America, the most common type of kitchen cabinet has raised-panel doors or bead-board designs. The colors of this type of cabinet can range from whites, to reds, to even tans. But, for most traditional styles, wood is the most common material to use. What sets this style apart from others is that some of the cabinets will have inset recessed doors, which means you will see the frame around the doors of the cabinets.

Shaker Style

Shaker cabinets show simple, clean, and functional design. These kitchen cabinets will almost always include flat-paneled cabinet doors with rail frames, as well as neutral paint hues, such as white or grey. When it comes to kitchens, you should decide early on if you would like a “warm” or “cold” kitchen. This doesn’t necessarily reference the temperature of the kitchen, but the colors you would like to use. Shaker cabinets are more suited for “cold” style kitchens, which use colors like white, grey, and blue in their design.

Rustic Wood

Rustic styles reflect a country or mountain lifestyle due to its use of large, dark wood cabinets. With rustic style cabinets, warm colors and wood materials are used throughout the kitchen. For this style, most kitchens will feature large cabinets that have matte finishes. This is to accentuate the authenticity of the wood cabinets. By not choosing to cover the cabinets with a typical glossy finish, the wood gives off a natural, rustic aesthetic — hence the name of the cabinet style.
